Integrative, Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Dr. Ralph Snyderman, M.D. delivered a seminal lecture for the NCCAM in 2005, describing the emerging field of Integrative Medicine in great detail (follow the login link to register for free access to view the video and transcript). The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) is the Federal Government's lead agency for scientific research on the diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not generally considered part of conventional medicine. NCCAM is a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Anthroposophic Medicine

According to the Association for Anthroposophical Health Professionals (ARTEMISIA), Anthroposophic Medicine is defined as follows:

An holistic approach to medicine beginning with fundamental medical and therapeutic training, then adding spiritual scientific studies outlined by Rudolf Steiner. The result is an integrated image of the whole human being in illness and in health. This makes it possible to have both an holistic and rational approach to physiology, pathology and therapy.

The Physicians' Association for Anthroposophical Medicine (PAAM), describes Anthroposophic Medicine in more detail:

An individual is not simply a body, there is also the psyche and personality to take into account as well. Anthroposophic doctors regard physical and mental existence together with personality as a unit, each element having the capacity to influence the others. One of the fundamental aspects of anthroposophic medicine is to take this into account during diagnosis and therapy.

Nevertheless, it is not an “alternative medicine”– it doesn't aim to replace conventional medicine.  On the contrary – it is based on accepted medical science; it just takes things a step further.  Or in other words, anthroposophic medicine makes use of everything that scientific research has revealed to be of benefit to the human being.  Moreover it supplements “material science” with aspects of spiritual science in order to assess the individual as a whole entity.

Online Specialty Pharmacies

Uriel Pharmacy is the nation's premiere anthroposophical pharmacy. Based in Wisconsin, they offer a unique line of excellent anthroposophical remedies, which I use extensively in my practice.

Celletech provides my classical homepathic remedies, and offers a variety of complimentary and alternative health care products. I developed the initial formulas and helped John Cain launch the company in 1985. I turned over the operation to him when I decided to move out west and concentrate on my growing repertoire of healing specialties and my private practice.
